Our Lady of Sorrows

At the cross her station keeping,
Stood the mournful mother weeping,
Close to Jesus to the last.
Through her heart, his sorrow sharing,
All his bitter anguish bearing,
Now at length the sword has passed."
Stabat Mater

PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL

Celebrant:
My brothers and sisters,
as we celebrate the dying and rising of Jesus in this Eucharist,
we are one with Mary, the sorrowful Virgin,
who, at the foot of the Cross, shared in the suffering of her Son.
With confidence in her intercession, we make our prayers to the Father.

Intercessor:
We pray for the Church:
may she be as a mother to all the afflicted.
At one with with Mary,
may she bring consolation to those in trouble,
and pour into their hearts
that hope which does not deceive.

Lord, hear us:
All: Lord, graciously hear us.

Intercessor:
We pray that whenever we are persecuted for believing in Jesus
and for holding to the Faith that comes from the Apostles.
the Holy Spirit will help us, like Mary,
to offer our sufferings in union with those of Jesus,
for the Church and the world.

Lord, hear us:
All: Lord, graciously hear us.

Intercessor:
We pray that, as the beloved disciple made a place for Mary in his own home,
Christians everywhere will know her
as the loving mother of all her Son's people.

Lord, hear us:
All: Lord, graciously hear us.

Intercessor:
We pray for the unity of Christians,
that gazing with Mary upon the crucified Saviour,
now gloriously risen from the dead,
we may all be drawn together by the Holy Spirit.

Lord, hear us:
All: Lord, graciously hear us.

Intercessor:
We pray for all here present.
Through our union with Mary at the foot of the Cross,
sharing in the passion of Jesus,
may we find strength to face our present trials and difficulties.

Lord, hear us:
All: Lord, graciously hear us.

Celebrant:
Father of mercies,
accept the prayers of those who stand with Mary on Calvary.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
All: Amen.
